Literature Review 2.1. Globalization and MNCs Today it is not unusual to hear the word globalization . It is widely argued that globalization as a process has become so inevitable and irreversible that we take it for granted (Spicer and Fleming 2007). However, there is no universally accepted meaning of the word globalization, as it is highly contested. Thus, globalization cannot be addressed as a real and objective process, but rather a range of processes nesting under one rather unwieldy epithet (Freeden 2003, p.5). FairClough (1989) sees globalization as a new independent discourse that leads to various other discourses. The most common meaning of globalization stems out from the global economical expansion of the market (Robertson 1998). The increased flow of goods and services across borders results in the interchange of other dimensions of globalization including social, political and cultural discourses. Globalization is seen as imposing new ways of human life as well as instilling new meanings, signs and concepts (Moghr i 2012). The proponents of globalization have coherently expressed powerful and attractive discourse of globalization promoting its benefits (Cooper and Ezzamel 2013). In this dissertation, globalization is defined as integration of economies, industries, markets and cultures around the world.
